Summary:

The Oil and Gas Independents' Association is a self-help group of 34 oil companies active in the UKCS. Our membership includes a wide spectrum of companies from UK divisions of large well-established multinational organisations through to small start-ups and from companies with an active exploration drilling capability to purely financial investors. We do not admit major production operators. Collectively we represent approx 5% of UKCS production and 27% of the exploration wellcount.

What does the OGIA do?

We are a community of oil and gas exploration and production companies active on the UKCS who come together to share knowledge and experience of the UKCS business and regulatory climate and to press for changes where appropriate.

Who do you lobby?

We are in regular communication with the DTI, with the Treasury, and with other industry groups. Over recent years we have played a full part in the workgroups set up under Pilot (DTI initiative) to promote better access to acreage, access to infrastructure, and access to data. With the introduction of SCT and its recent increase to 20% we have spent more time engaged with the Treasury. This looks set to be a continuing trend. Our participation in these areas is sometimes on a standalone basis and sometimes via contributions to UKOOA led activities.

Who are the members?

Member companies tend to be either smaller UK exploration companies (including many that originated via the Promote initiative) or UK subsidiaries of substantial foreign organizations which are investing here. These foreign parents include successful North American E&P companies, European utilities and Japanese downstream companies. We also have some members who are more usually thought of in the context of the service sector. Most representatives have many years experience in the UKCS, and many are well known to one another.

Where is the OGIA based?

Directors (we are a limited company) are all in active employment and can be contacted at the addresses of their companies. We have no office or paid staff. See reverse of this sheet for a contact list.

Who can join?

You have to be a current UKCS licence holder. You can be an exploration operator or a non-operating investor. If you grow so that you become a UKCS production operator you can stay on as a member. However if you are already a UKCS production operator you cannot apply to join.

How do I join?

Fill out the application form attached and return it to the Treasurer. At the next Board Meeting you will be considered for membership. If you are accepted the Treasurer will send you an invoice.

What does it cost?

It depends on whether you have a full licence or if you only have (a) Promote Licence(s). Promote licenceholders pay £250 p.a. As soon as you hold a full licence the rate is £500 p.a.

What does this pay for?

We keep administration costs to a threadbare minimum. We are lucky in getting help with essential functions on a pro-bono basis. We sometimes need to pay for professional or other services in pursuit of our agreed goals. We pay for lunches, hire of rooms, etc. at our meetings out of funds.

When and where do you meet?

About 6 to 8 times a year. We have three types of meetings: " Board meetings - these are just held between the directors but once a year we have an AGM to vote on the accounts and to elect Board Members " Members Meetings - group discussion - these are typically held in a boardroom with an electronic projector where we can fit 30 representatives and we will take a sandwich lunch. " Members Meetings - hosting guests / guest speakers - these are typically held in a restaurant.
